一項新研究的結果表明,在生病期間與宗教信仰作鬥爭可能會增加老年患者的死亡風險。研究結果發表在本週的Archives of Internal Medicine雜誌上。

之前的研究已將經常參加教堂禮拜與降低死亡風險聯絡起來。但這項研究是第一個檢驗對宗教的負面情緒對患者死亡率的影響的研究。Bowling Green州立大學心理學家Kenneth Pargament及其同事研究了595名年齡在55歲或以上的個體(主要是基督徒),他們在1996年至1997年期間住院。研究人員發現,患者報告的其他事情包括感到與上帝疏遠或相信魔鬼帶來了他們的疾病,這與在為期兩年的隨訪期間死亡風險增加高達28%有關。其他因素,如性別、種族和診斷,並不能預測死亡率。
